Witt Labor Day Celebration

Okay everyone it's that time of year.  The Witt Lions is having the Lite-A-Lite Sudnay, December 8 at 3:30pm to 6:30pm.  Featuring a turkey dinner and toy raffle for the children. Then Santa will be stopping in for a visit.

 The 107th Witt Labor Day Homecoming celebration will be held Saturday, Sunday and Monday, Aug. 31, Sept. 1 and 2.

The three-day event will include daily rides, concessions and games. Advanced ride tickets will be sold until 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 31, with a special price of 24 tickets for $18. Rides will require two or three tickets, which must be used before the carnival closes after 3 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 2. Tickets may be purchased at various businesses in Witt and Nokomis.

The Witt Area Historical Museum Open House will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, 12 to 5 p.m. on Sunday and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday.

Saturday's events kick off with registration of alumni and social hour for the Witt High School Alumni Reunion from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Witt Lions Building. The banquet will follow at 6 p.m.

The fourth annual Labor Day Pageant will begin at 6 p.m. on the main stage. Mike Niehaus, magician and ventriloquist, will provide entertainment at 8 p.m., and Papa Cherry will play from 8 p.m. to midnight in the beer pavilion. The rib-chicken cookoff will be held in the beer pavilion from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday. The Witt Labor Day run/walk will kick off at 9 a.m. for the 5K fun run/walk and the one-mile fun run/walk at 9:15 a.m. A water ball contest will take place at 10 a.m. at 3rd and Park Street, as well as the washer pitch contest at 1 p.m. in the beer pavilion. The car-motorcycle show will be held at 12:30 p.m. with the trophy presentation at 4 p.m. Wine tasting will take place in the beer pavilion from 1 to 6 p.m.

Lineup for the kiddie parade, themed "My Favorite Sport," will be at 4 p.m. between the firehouse and city shed. The parade will follow at 4:30 p.m. with parade winners announced at the bandstand at 5 p.m. Steve Brandes as Elvis will perform at 7 p.m. at the bandstand. Shoal Creek Band will provide entertainment in the beer pavilion at 8 p.m.

On Monday morning, the parade will be held at 10 a.m. with registration at the Witt Lions Park at 9 a.m. Winners will be announced at 11 a.m., and the Hillsboro High School Marching Hiltoppers will perform at 11:05 a.m. Sign-up for the pedal tractor pull will begin at 12 p.m. with the event to follow at 1 p.m. Events in the beer pavilion include a washer pitch contest at 1 p.m. and Swamp Donkies featuring Coalton Waddington, John Carpenter and Mark Holthaus from 4 to 7 p.m. Drawing for prizes will take place in the bandstand at 6 p.m.
