1908 Labor Day Program
Witt, Illinois, September 7

9:30 a.m. Parade, headed by the Redman Band of Witt with Prof. Crane as leader, followed by carriages containing speakers, decorated floats. representing the business houses of Witt, visiting and local trades union delegations, horribles and general population. A prize of $10.00 given for the best float and $5.00 for second best and $2.50 for third. Ilorribles will be awarded with $3 for most comic and $2 for second best.

10:00 a.m Welcome address by Richard Holmes, Marshall of the Day.

 

10:45 a.m .Address by Frank M. Ramey of Hillsboro, Republican nominee for States Attorney.


11:15 a.m Address by Henry C. Suttle of Litchfield, Democratic nominee for St
States Attorney.


12:00 p.m. Noon, Dinner. If you did not bring your dinner, the hotels and restaurants of this city will give you your money’s worth.


1:00 p.m Horse Race. The race will be run on Broadway, starting near the depot and running west. Four or more horses will be started in this race, horses to belong to parties living in Witt. First prize $10.00; second $5.00. Every one should keep to the side of the street and not attempt to cross after the horses have been given their positions, as you can see the race from the walk where you will be safe.

2:00 p.m .Base ball Game. Nokomis vs. Witt, at ball park. This promises to furnish plenty of sport for base ball fans as the two teams have met several times this year and have always put up a good game. Park located East of Broadway. Watch where the crowd goes. Admission 25 cents.

4:00 p.m Athletic Events. On Broadway. Greased Pole Climbing. A two dollar bill given to the first one to climb the pole and secure from the top. Fat man’s race. A prize given for first and second winners. Sack race. $2.00 for first and $1.00 for second. Wheelbarrow Race. $2.00 for first and $1.00 for second. Small Boys Race. (Boys must be under 12 years of age. An entrance fee of 10 cents will be charged.) Winner $1.00 Small Girls Race. (Girls under 12 years are eligible for this event. An entrance fee of 10 cents will be charged.) Winner $1.00 100 yard dash. $5.00 for first and $3.00 for second.
